The Japanese role-playing game genre is still kicking even after a few decades. What will be coming out in 2022 though? Here are some personal favorites to possibly look forward to.

Disclaimer: This article is only an opinion. Play whatever game you like!

Coming in Full-Force:

The year 2021 hasn't been too exciting but we had notable games like New World, Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis, FFXIV Endwalker, and more RPGs and whatnot.

We have gotten Shin Megami Tensei 5, Atelier Ryza 2, Tales of Arise, Nier Replicant, Bravely Default 2, and the list goes on...

But nothing tops this:

With that, I don't want to make this article very long, so let's get right to the point on some upcoming JRPGs I'm currently excited for!

My Most Anticipated Picks for 2022:

Pokemon Legends: Arceus [Switch]

Rune Factory 5 [Switch] - March 22 (NA)

Farming, dungeons, and slice of life; a peaceful game... I have pretty much played every Rune Factory game to-date, and although it's not a perfect farm simulator game or whatnot, I just like the easy-to-play gameplay and the small abundant features in the game. The story is alright, but it's more about just having a pleasant time, which this game vibes with at.

FF7 R2 & Maybe FF16

he talks about an upcoming trailer for FF7R2

coming soon... With that Kingdom Hearts twist?

Games of Thrones with Primals and magic?! In all realness, the game gives off Dragon Age vibes if anything. There isn't much to say about FF16 right now, but I can't wait for FF17 Online (jking) :D I hope account and character data information can transfer over... Please!

Granblue Fantasy: Relink

I like the combat and the environment looks adventurous.

Star Ocean: The Divine Force

I'm a huge fan of the Star Ocean series, I still have my signed poster from akiman for Star Ocean 5! I'm not sure if this is coincidental or not... but I like Asian (exotic-looking; or so) girls with blonde hair and blue eyes... Goddamn, hahaha! So it's already a winning game; I hope the story and the features are polished better compared to the previous title.

This Star Ocean seems to have an homage to Star Ocean Till The End of Time and The Last Hope; to be honest this might be my favorite Star Ocean game!

Whoa man, most of these are published by Square Enix! Yea I know... I need more suggestions! Hopefully, there will be some surprise releases in 2022 in the world of JRPGs.

What About MMOJRPGs?

For now, I'm looking forward to FF14's Endwalker expansion and Blue Protocol.

I started playing FF14 about 2 months ago; I was playing casually, but I do want to catch up in terms of the story so I can be ready for Endwalker! Endwalker comes with the end of the current story about Light and Dark. The expansion also introduces new jobs like Reaper and added skills to previous classes, an increased level cap, and more quests... But most importantly a cross-server feature and more housing for players!

FF14 Endwalker

Blue Protocol

For Blue Protocol, it reminds me of PSO2NGS in some aspects, but I get the feeling of adventure and mystery! Something I really miss in life and gaming.

That's It and Thank You:

For my upcoming JRPGs for 2022, unless there are pleasant surprises, the list is solid for now. If any of the games come out sooner or have a change in a release, which I hope not, then I might have to re-do the list or do something else with my time. But at heart, I really appreciate the developers and companies that make video games, because, to me, it's my media of enjoying a good storybook.

As usual, have a fantastic day and stay healthy!
